Retreats & Workshops
2010
October 7, Thursday – October 10, Sunday: Meditation Retreat with Therese Fitzgerald
Tallahassee, Florida
Minding the Mind
Learning how to watch the mind, the “forerunner of all action,” is a vital investment. The value of “minding the mind” is being brought home to us anew as neuroscientists highlight the negative bias of the human brain. It is all the clearer how essential it is to make time in our fast-paced, multi-tasking lives to be still and know how our minds are working in order to cultivate states of mind that open the way for awakening and liberation.
During this retreat, there will be silent walking and sitting meditation, mindful meals, yoga, and fallow time to cultivate “breathful presence” of our bodies and minds in the present moment. Dharma talks and focused discussions will focus on establishing mindfulness of the mind.
Therese Fitzgerald received Dharmacharya ordination by Thich Nhat Hanh in 1994 and Soto Zen priest ordination by Richard Baker-roshi in 1986. She is co-founder of the Community of Mindful Living, which developed Thich Nhat Hanh’s teaching and Vietnamese social work base in the U.S. Together with Maxine Hong Kingston, Therese helped start the Veterans’ Writing Group. Therese now lives on Maui, where she works as a spiritual mentor, meditation teacher, and chaplain at the Maui Community Correctional Center. She is a native of Charlotte, NC.
Lunch and High Tea will be served. Tea, coffee, and water will be available.
Please plan on attending the entire retreat.
Suggested voluntary donation: $100. Donation for teacher, separate.
